President David Inducted by Immediate Past President Glen |
The next evening Carol & I went to the Rotary Club of Newark Castle Handover, accompanied by DGE Steve Laws, he being on home territory as a former Assistant Governor for the Group. As this was not an official DG Visit, I "allowed" him to do all the talking!!
Thursday found me almost in the farthest reaches to the east of our District at the famous Saracen's Head Hotel at Southwell, the HQ of the Rotary Club of Southwell. Unfortunately Carol could not accompany me on this visit, this hotel stocks a wonderful Argentinian Malbec!
The Hotel lived up to it's reputation for good food, which was complemented by the excellent company of President Harold's top table!
Carol & I set off on Friday to travel down to London, not a good idea! A journey which should have taken a couple of hours took five but, aren't Sat Nav devices wonderful? I learnt on this trip, ours actually knows about impending holdups and reroutes to avoid them, in our case it turned us round, unfortunately the road it turned us round on was the M25, taking us past the point we had joined! We were aiming to attend the Induction of the first lady President of Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland (RIBI).
Nan McCreadie (not her best side!)
This mould-breaking ceremony took place at "The Stoop", the home of the Harlequins Rugby Club in Twickenham. The Presidential Induction was linked to the Induction of the Rotaract International (RGBI) Chairman James Lovett and of Ron Daniels the District Governor of District 114 . Our friend Ron and his wife Helena Daniels were kind enough to put us up for the weekend at his lovely home in Surrey, It was a great privilege to be able to witness these three handovers in such prestigious surroundings.
James Lovett
