Visit to Lisbon and District Hand Over

Carol and I have just returned from a very enjoyable visit to the Lisbon Rotary International Convention, accompanying several of our friends from my Club, the Rotary Club of Bretby. Of the many highlights of the Convention, one included a rare treat at the end of the Opening Ceremony, listening to an outstanding performance from the famous singers Il Divo. Throughout the Convention we where treated to some excellent speakers and in particular very good news from Bruce Aylward Assistant Director General WHO about Polio eradication.

River Cruse Lisbon

The weather was glorious and on Saturday afternoon we went on a River cruise around Lisbon Harbour, lovely company and excellent lunch.

After returning home a day earlier than planned because of a threatened National Strike thoughts had to be turned to District Handover on Sunday 30th of June. This took place at The Novotel Hotel in Long Eaton, over a 100 Rotarians and partners attended. Outgoing District Governor  Dave gave an excellent presentation this included the handing out of  District Trophies, certificates and Awards to well deserving participants.

District Governor Dave then gave his valedictory speech and the time came for the Handover ceremony. This went without a hitch and suddenly WOW I was the next District Governor.
I will endeavour to continue to serve the District in my year with as much enthusiasm and dedication as past DGs have shown. Carol and I will ensure we visit and do as many things as we possibly can during our time. We will keep you all in touch as the weeks go on.
